Kathi Cover is a seasoned intellectual property lawyer with deep experience in litigation, strategy, and risk management. Her practice spans federal district courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the United States Supreme Court, and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. She has represented global technology companies, industry leaders, and nonprofit organizations in matters involving technologies ranging from semiconductors and software to pharmaceuticals.

Her many years of litigation experience with a prominent international law firm included authoring appellate briefs before the Federal Circuit and Supreme Court, arguing before the Federal Circuit, defending and challenging patents in inter partes review proceedings, and participating in complex IP and commercial litigation through trial and across jurisdictions. Earlier in her career, she clerked for the Honorable Sharon Prost of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

In addition to her law firm practice, Kathi has served as General Counsel for multiple global technology companies. Most recently, she led all legal, compliance, and risk functions for an international consumer electronics company, supporting IP portfolio development and strategy, licensing, litigation, M&A transactions, and corporate governance worldwide.

An advocate for equity in law and technology, Kathi was a founding co-chair of the East Coast Chapter of ChIPs and has worked with organizations including the USPTO, the Federal Circuit, and DC public schools to promote STEM and legal careers for underrepresented students.  Outside the office, she is an accomplished endurance athlete, having completed over a dozen Ironman triathlons and qualifying for the 2025 Ironman World Championship in Kona.

Automated Business Companies, Inc. v. NEC America, Inc. (Fed. Cir.) Defended NEC as lead counsel at the trial and appellate stages, winning summary judgment of noninfringement and an award of attorneys fees, which was affirmed on appeal.
MicroStrategy, Inc. v. Business Objects, S.A. (Fed. Cir.) Represented the appellee in a software patent and business torts dispute, including drafting appeal briefs and second-chairing oral argument.
SanDisk Corp. v. STMicroelectronics, Inc. (Fed. Cir.) Represented the appellant in a dispute involving flash memory storage products and addressing the scope of subject matter jurisdiction in an action for declaratory judgment.
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. v. Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (PTAB) Represented Huawei in post-grant defense of patent claims related to cellular communications and subsequent appeal to the Federal Circuit.
EMI Group North America Inc. v. Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (D. Del.) Representing the patentee, second-chaired a jury trial in a semiconductor patent case and briefed the appeal to the Federal Circuit.
iBiquity Digital Corp. v. Continental Electronics (Maryland) As in-house counsel for iBiquity, managed the litigation team in a high-stakes IP and contract dispute involving digital radio technology. A jury found in favor of iBiquity on all counts.
